Step by step method to make a fabric mask at home
I’m here to share a process for how to make fabric masks at home for yourself, your family and your friends.
We are all in a hard time this moment, most countries are locked down for stopping the covid-19 virus spreading. I know there are some cultural differences for using a mask for virus protection in different countries. But in my understanding, for most respiratory infectious disease, masks are helpful as a physical barrier when you have to go outside for work or to buy food in a supermarket. Wearing a mask cannot give you 100% protection, but at least can stop you touching your face when you go outside or are with the public.
Compared with medical masks, fabric masks only can offer limited protection. But for now, there is a shortage of medical masks in the world, and we need to leave them to doctors and nurses to save more lives. Research shows that fabric masks also can offer over 50% protection. If everyone is wearing a mask, the infection risk should go down.
I’d like to share two types of mask making methods. I have tested some pattern cuttings, made some samples and my husband and I have tried them in order to create masks with good fitting around the face, to reduce any gaps. I have improved some details for the masks to offer a suitable cutting pattern. I hope this information is helpful to make both tight and comfortable masks.
